Meet Sadie Bartram

Sadie Bartram - Yoga Teacher

I am a dedicated, longtime student of yoga and have been teaching yoga for over 25 years to people of all ages in a variety of different settings. Yoga is the grounding force and guiding light of my life and has supported me through the ups and downs of many transitions. This inspires me to share the many benefits of this ancient practice with others. My intention for teaching yoga to others is to help people integrate these supportive practices into their daily life. I endeavour to honour the authentic roots of yoga in my classes, Private Yoga & Holistic Coaching sessions and in all areas of my life. I gratefully welcome the opportunity to teach yoga to others.

My Story

I attended my first yoga class in 1994. I am not sure what initially drew me to yoga, but I remember encouraging my sisters to join me in signing up for a series. I continued attending classes after that first series and as the years passed, yoga became more and more a part of my life and guiding my way of being. In 2001, I decided to take a three month intensive (350 hour) Yoga Teacher Training with the Chakra Yoga Centre in Victoria as a way to deepen my own practice. I hadn't considered teaching, but as I progressed in the training and experienced the transformative affects of this intensive training, I realized that I would indeed like to teach and share the many benefits of this ancient practice. I have been teaching ever since and through teaching have learned so much, most importantly that I am forever a student and have many more layers to shed and layers of awareness to deepen into.

In 2021, I was introduced to Arkaya Yoga and my teacher Yogacharini Maitreyi through the online Arkaya Community Class and Satsang. Upon meeting Maitreyi, I knew that I had found a true teacher who could support and guide me to continue deepening on my yogic path in a way that is aligned with the true roots of classical yoga and tantra. I also found that support of a like-minded community which I had been missing.

Arkaya Yoga is a holistic healing modality and structure for life that supports health, awareness, growth and balance on all levels of our multi-dimensional being. With the support of my family, I registered for the 500-Hour Arkaya Awareness Teacher Training. In August 2024, I received my Arkaya Yoga and MultiDimensional Healing Certification. Since this time, I have been a regular teacher for the Arkaya Community Class and Satsang. I am also the Programs & Volunteer Coordinator for Arkaya Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the Indigenous Wisdom of Yoga with the world. I am grateful to be part of the Arkaya Yoga community and continue deepening and learning with Yogacharini Maitreyi and supporting the amazing work of Arkaya Foundation.

I have received certification in Trauma-Informed Yoga through Yoga Outreach's Leve l & ll Core Training. I volunteered  with Yoga Outreach for 3 years, teaching at Cowichan Valley Women Against Violence Society and Carlile Youth Unit at the Hope Centre. I completed training in Pre/Postnatal Yoga in 2004 and currently teach weekly classes for parent participants of the Healthiest Babies Program run by Hiiye'yu Lelum - House of Friendship. These classes are one of the highlights in my week. I also completed my Children's Yoga Teacher Training in 2004 and teach children's classes at two Cowichan Valley Regional District Recreation Centres.

For the last 21 years, I have lived on the unceded, traditional lands of the Quw'utsun people with my husband and two sons who are now young adults. My two sons continue to teach me so much - patience and presence, playfulness and laughter, dedication and passion and unconditional love. I am very grateful for this beautiful place that is my 'heart home' and the supportive community here. I love growing food and medicinal herbs in my garden, spending time hiking in the forest and by the ocean and connecting with community.
